Majestic Academy

Majestic Academy of Music & Art started as a community pantomime project in 2001 called Royston Amateur Performing Arts Group (RAPAG). Lead by volunteer Anthony Larkin this group took a break after 13 years at the end of 2014. You can see all the early Photographs from the shows here.

During the RAPAG break, Anthony's Grandma (His MAMA) sadly passed away, he decided to dedicate the returning groups name to his MAMA. Majestic Academy of Music & Art (MAMA) began life January 2016.

Our drama group workshops are child focused for the ages 7 - 16. We range our workshops with activities to suit all ages and to develop skills such as: movement, body language, facial expression, timing control and song.  It also encourages individual self-confidence, social cooperation and enhances creativity.

At MAMA we create 2 shows a year. A summer production and the annual pantomime both open to the public. Our aim is to provide young people the opportunity to shine like stars – showcasing their talent that would otherwise go unnoticed and at the same time, we are able to give people a community theatre.

As much as the workshops are for the children to learn, we certainly want them to enjoy and have fun. We encourage them to make new friends, gain confidence and give them the chance to appear in one of Barnsley's longest running community pantomimes.

Rehearsals are every Wednesday evenings at Barugh Green WMC, Higham Common Lane, Higham 6-8pm. All our volunteers have an Enhanced DBS Check, through MAMA or through their employment.  Cost is £6 per session and includes a light refreshment and snack during break time. This can be paid upfront on our website or on arrival (card payment preferred). You can also buy sessions in blocks of four for £20 (saving you £4).

Members are required to wear their official MAMA t-shirt - which is available to purchase on our website. They will also need black trousers/leggings and comfortable shoes to allow them to move about safely.

Our drama group is a great way to get your child to mix with like-minded children and adults in a safe environment giving them extra social skills outside of school.
